Dr Elyse Waits

Deputy Head Pastoral

'Mira gave a very informative talk to students and to parents. The information she presented was well researched and referenced and she was able to provide an ‘expert’ view on the latest medical research into the effects of vaping. She delivered an age appropriate and non patronising talk to years 8,9 and10 which was very well received. Her no nonsense, practical and realistic approach was very refreshing and exactly what we needed to help educate our students around making healthy and safe decisions. The parent talk was brilliant for giving adults the right language and information to have open conversations with teenagers and to educate themselves around this topic.

Community Dentistry King's College Hospital

‘Mira delivered her talk on vaping in adolescents to our community dentistry in King’s College Hospital service. We have learnt more up to date information about this novel habit amongst adolescents and how it can affect their respiratory health. Oral health and frequent vaping may have long standing correlation in the future. Updating about this habit is therefore crucial for all healthcare professionals.’

Dr Simon Chapman King's College Hospital

King's Adolescent Outreach Service

'Mira meets many of the young people (13-25y) that our youth work team encounter across the hospital. She is great at engaging them and very knowledgeable and practical when it comes to information about smoking, vaping and all things tobacco.  She helps them to understand the impact of smoking on their health in a non-judgemental way, and offers them practical support on how to stop. We are at King’s lucky to have such an amazing resource in Mira.'

Parent King's College Hospital

“Mira saw my child that was addicted to Vaping, she was very knowledgeable and talked to my daughter in a very non-judgmental way to help her to quit the addiction to Nicotine in the Vape.  As a parent I had more information to help me and her mum to aid her with tackling the Vaping addiction and she finally quit.”

Ms Maria Tsikkinis
Head of PSHE and Wellbeing

Head of Physics

'Mira was engaging and informative. She provided a lot of insight into the health implications (both short term and long term) of vaping and she also helped students understand the reasons that might lead some of them to vape. Mira helped us navigate the uncertainty around this new concept of vaping and we all felt much better informed after the presentation.'

James Alleyn Girl's School

Deputy Head Mr Paul O'Dwyer

"Mira delivered a JAGS Parent Talk online (Jan 2023) and subsequently an assembly to the whole school in person to convey the facts and risks of vaping to adolescents. These informative sessions conveyed her experience as a paediatric respiratory nurse specialist as well as the outlook of a parent. Mira's materials and PPT slides complemented our PSHCE programme in an up-to-date manner and the message has allowed the school policy and approach - both supportive for students struggling/dabbling with vaping, as well as clear in the sanction if found in school - to be understood afresh by students and parents. Mira has a friendly, open and good-humoured delivery style without holding back from shining a light on the more unpalatable facts and consequences of vaping in adolescents, which she sees daily in her clinical work."

Ms Roz Edenbrow

'Mira spoke to our entire year 7 pupils in an engaging and professional way. Students felt confident to ask Mira questions during her talk as well as on one to one basis. Mira's experience as a nurse in NHS and references to real case studies within her talk allowed our students consider both the known and to be discovered the long term effects of vaping.
